Program Highlight: Fresh For Kids

Lowcountry Food Bank’s Fresh for Kids program grew from the COVID years, when we wanted to ensure kids and their families had access to fresh produce. Originally distributed through Pop-Up-Produce events, when LCFB staff distributed fresh produce at school sites, the Fresh for Kids program is now implemented at our Kids Café and Summer Meal sites.

Five times throughout the year, fresh produce is donated to our sites to be distributed to their children and families. This summer, GrowFood donated more than 9,500 pounds of fresh produce to summer meal sites in the tri-county area. In 2024, 30,000 pounds of fresh produce was distributed to more than 30 sites, about 50 families with each distribution.
