Live 5 News Rise and Shine Food and Fund Drive Raises More than $95,000 for Lowcountry Children

From May 30 through the end of the day Friday, the Lowcountry Food Bank, in partnership with Live 5 News, accepted both monetary and food donations from generous community members.

This was all done with the goal of providing nutritious meals to children who otherwise may not have access to food, especially while school was out up and down the coast.

This year, organizers set a fundraising goal of $50,000, which was later raised $75,000, with each dollar able to provide as many as three good meals for children 18 and under.

However, donators blew that goal out of the water; by the end of Friday, $90,680.56 had been raised through this initiative. That’s 180% of the original goal and 120% of the final one.

For perspective, this achievement grants the Lowcountry Food Bank the ability to provide up to 272,000 meals or more, directly to children who would have gone without, through financial donations alone.

This would not have been possible without the kindness, charity and good-old-fashioned Southern hospitality of those who gave to this worthy cause and helped improve the lives and well-being of children up and down the coast.

“We want to thank everyone for answering the call to help feed kids and families in Coastal South Carolina over the summer” WCSC Director of Marketing and Lifestyle, Steven Bevels, said. “Not only was the goal met; it was almost doubled. We couldn’t be prouder to serve such a generous community.”
