Meet Brandon – from unhoused to community leader
"Now working in the field, I can see where I was touched by Lowcountry Food Bank without even knowing that I was touched by it."
Evalyn Finds Hope After Loss
"People are what bring you back out into social situations."
After losing her husband, the food pantry gave her a path forward.
Meet Meita
"This food pantry has helped me in more ways than I can express. I have enough food in my house to share with my neighbors every once in a while. At the pantry you are treated as if you were the most important person in the world. For someone who has not experienced hunger, I would let them know that there are wonderful people that can help you. You are important, and never be ashamed to ask for help. The pantry’s director and volunteers are a delight."
Meet Edward
"Food prices are so high. My family can’t make it on the money we earn. I would not be as healthy as I am without the support I get from the Food Bank."
Meet Letha
"There have been plenty of times I went hungry so that my kids could eat. I’d rather they eat than me. My local food pantry is important to me and my family because without food stamps – and the way food prices are going up – we couldn’t survive."
Supporting Families Through School Food Centers
"Parent to parent, we all struggle. Our children look to us to help them see beyond those challenges and to make sure they feel safe and at peace. One of the best ways we can give our children peace is by finding peace ourselves."
Cooking Matters Classes Empower Neighbors to Thrive
"I made the decision [to take Cooking Matters classes] because the knowledge my family will gain there will be very important for daily life."
Fresh For All Distribution Empowers Neighbors
"To have this resource is amazing. I want to make sure that my kids have healthy nutrition and have access to the best quality ingredients."
Meet Deborah
"We are a community that helps everybody else. It makes the world a nicer place. It doesn’t matter your background, or your situation. If you need help, it’s okay."
Meet Joseph
"This will last me a long time. Onions, tomatoes – all things I like. If you need help, there’s people out there – there really is."
Meet Tasha
"I take advantage of the free produce because it helps my family save in case we need extra money because of the cost of living. What makes me hopeful is that no matter how chaotic the world is right now, every first Tuesday of the month, this location will be here, and I’ll be able to see the wonderful volunteers."
Congregation Member at Mount Nebo Baptist Church Food Pantry
"So grateful to this food pantry. I don’t know what I would do for food if I didn’t come here. I get $23 per month on my food stamps and it’s not enough. The people here are so kind and helpful."
Meet Mack
Mack served our country for four years and is currently a full-time college student. His Veterans benefits and part-time work do not cover his expenses for school, rent, utilities, his 15-year-old car — much less food. He was so thankful when he heard about one of Lowcountry Food Bank’s partner agencies that can give him access to healthy food and ease his food insecurity. With a huge smile on his face, he said, “I was able to eat whole wheat pasta with canned chicken on top.” Not only was it good but his stomach was not growling during class. “Thank you for helping those like me, who just need a hand up.”
Meet Melvin
"The food pantries are so important to me and my family because it helps out when you are on a fixed income. I feel a weight off my shoulders when I come to the pantry. This helps me not feel so stressed – knowing I can get food and still be able to pay bills on budget."
