Since opening in Early Branch in 2025, the Lowcountry Food Bank Southern Region Facility has expanded our ability to serve neighbors across the southernmost counties of coastal South Carolina. The facility was established to improve food access in rural and underserved communities, strengthen regional partnerships, and increase responsiveness during times of crisis.
Since opening, the facility has:
- Increased storage and distribution capacity for fresh produce, refrigerated, frozen, and shelf-stable foods with 9,000 square feet of refrigerator and freezer space
- Enables us to efficiently repack products for distribution with a USDA-approved repack room
- Fully IT-enabled conferencing capability and meeting facilities for our partners
- Expanded service to rural communities with limited food access
- Improved delivery efficiency and reduced travel distances for partner agencies
- Strengthened disaster response capabilities during hurricanes, flooding, and other emergencies
- Supported mobile food distributions that can bring food directly into Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper County communities for neighbors facing transportation barriers
- Increased partnerships with schools, churches, healthcare providers, and local nonprofits
- Created more volunteer engagement opportunities across the Southern Region
- Enhanced access to nutritious foods for children, seniors, veterans, and working families
The Southern Region Facility will continue to build toward becoming an important hub for collaboration and community engagement. Through partnerships with local organizations, Lowcountry Food Bank will continue to improve food access in this region and connect neighbors with additional support services and resources.
As needs continue to evolve throughout the Lowcountry, the Southern Region Facility will remain a critical part of Lowcountry Food Bank’s mission to build a stronger, healthier, and more food-secure future for every neighbor we serve.
