If there’s a problem in the warehouse, chances are James Drass has already handled it before anyone notices. As Warehouse Supervisor, James leads with patience, humility, and an unwavering commitment to the mission. In a fast-paced environment where volunteers of all ages and abilities sort and pack food in challenging weather conditions, he makes sure every person feels valued and appreciated. Whether supporting volunteers or stepping in alongside staff, James leads by example and never hesitates to take on the toughest jobs himself.

Our food bank distributes more than 40 million pounds of food each year, nearly 70% of it perishable, and James plays a critical role in keeping that operation moving smoothly. He manages product flow through coolers, freezers, and refrigerated containers with remarkable attention to freshness and rotation, helping the organization maintain an incredibly low disposal rate of just 1%. His care and consistency ensure good food reaches neighbors who need it most instead of going to waste.

Resourceful and dependable, James is always looking for ways to extend the life of equipment, reuse materials, and make the most of limited nonprofit resources. He also builds strong relationships with donors and farmers, helping them see the direct impact of their generosity. And while he prefers to stay out of the spotlight, James is a quiet hero who is often the first to arrive early, stay late, or handle the less glamorous tasks without complaint — always reminding the team that their work means families won’t go hungry.

Even among a deeply mission-driven staff, James stands out. Through his kindness, humility, and dedication to serving others, he embodies the very best of our organization and the spirit of a true Warehouse Hero.
