Award presented at CCF’s 50th Anniversary Gala recognizes transformative service across coastal South Carolina.
“The Lowcountry Food Bank was first established thanks to a grant from Coastal Community Foundation in 1982,” said Kerri Forrest, CCF’s Vice President of Grantmaking and Community Leadership. “Richard Hendry was there from the beginning, offering encouragement and guidance to what was then known as The Food Trust. It has since grown into a vital organization serving hundreds of thousands of people each year. LCFB embodies the spirit of this award through its commitment to community impact, innovation, and meaningful partnerships.”
Brenda Shaw, LCFB’s Chief Development Officer, accepted the award from Darren Goss, President and CEO of CCF, on behalf of the organization.
Since its founding, Lowcountry Food Bank has received more than $1 million in funding from CCF through competitive grantmaking, donor-established endowment funds, and disaster relief efforts. These investments have supported a wide range of LCFB initiatives, including:
- Fresh for All, Fresh for Seniors, and Fresh for Kids produce distributions
- BackPack Buddies, which provides weekend meals to children experiencing hunger
- School Pantries, which serve students and families directly on school campuses
“We are honored to be the first recipient of the Richard Hendry Nonprofit Impact Award,” said Nick Osborne, LCFB President and CEO. “In Richard Hendry’s own words: ‘That’s really how philanthropy works best—when we come together for a focused common cause and remember that everyone is at the table because they want to make something positive happen.’ We are grateful to be part of that shared mission.”

Over the past four decades, CCF has supported LCFB through numerous grant programs that align with a shared vision of a nourished Lowcountry, including the HOME Community Fund, Volvo Car USA Operations Grants Fund, Open Grants, The Beaufort Fund, and the Giving Back to Berkeley County Fund, among others.
